Wild Places & Wild People

Wildling

Hello and Welcome! I’m Debra the person behind the lens of South West Wildling Photography.
I started my photography journey after moving close to Dartmoor National Park and while I was enjoying exploring, I felt the need to capture the stunning beauty in more detail and purchased my first mirrorless camera in 2019.

Although I haven’t always been a photographer I have an artistic background after studying different specialisms and training as an Art and Design teacher in Further Education.

I have always believed in magic and had a childhood full of fairies, mermaids and fairytales and we had Pre-Raphaelite art in our home which made me fascinated with Greek Mythology and Arthurian legends.
I have always been an avid reader with fantasy being my favourite genre.
All of these interests strongly inspire my photography work and style.

In the woods amongst the trees and the moss feels like home to me and I am always drawn to water! If not in the woods, you can usually find me at Ancient Sites hugging standing stones and dancing in stone circles.

When I started my photography I was taking images of landscapes and magical locations and I didn’t envision that I would end up photographing people as well!
However through my own spiritual journey over the last few years I have met and connected with such wonderful people that have a strong connection to the wild that one day I decided to take my camera to a Mabon gathering organised by my friend Annabelle (Wild Sedona) and I found that I also loved photographing people in nature.
I aim for my photography to blend people with natural environments as we are all connected to Mother Earth.

Taking photographs is a spiritual practice for me, when I am photographing a waterfall, sunset, the moon, a river I become lost in the moment and being able to capture the beauty and wonder I see with me camera and to share with others brings me so much joy.

My photography tends to lean towards the dark and moodier side (hello Scorpio Rising!) however I am always open to ideas as well as being led by the feel of the landscape, the season and intended theme for the shoot.
In my personal and photography practice I follow the Wheel of The Year and appreciate all of our seasons and the abundance and variety that they offer.
With the photoshoots being outside I am also at the mercy of the weather and elements, however I enjoy embracing this and have found some of my favourite shoots and photographs have been on particularly stormy, atmospheric days!

Thank you so much for stopping by and please do reach out on my contact page if you have any questions.
